New Kids on the Block Rise to the Challenge
A team of hot young golfers from Wagga Wagga visited the ACT today to play their match against Gold Creek/Tully Park in the State Encourage Shield Playoffs.
In February this year Gold Creek/Tully Park had taken out the ACT Monaro DGA Junior Pennant Series launching them into the State Encourage Shield Playoff Series. Today the team dusted off their clubs (from their winter hibernation) and got together for a tough challenge against Wagga Wagga.
Belconnen Magpies Golf Club kindly hosted the event and saw the players hit off from 11.30am. The rain held off for the first hole and from then on in it got heavier and heavier and colder and colder. The course was very heavy, and everyone kept their spirits up in the trying conditions.
After the first 9 holes, Gold Creek/Tully Park were up in most of the games, looking confident, and settling in for the hard slog at the back end of the day. Heroically, Wagga Wagga kept fighting and with 4 holes to go, were back to square or up on their opponents. Wagga Wagga maintained the pressure and took the match 3 1/2 games up over the home team.
Congratulations to the Wagga Wagga team, we wish you good luck in your upcoming match against the South Coast Region. Thank you also to the Team Managers and Belconnen Magpies Golf Club for hosting the players today.
