Sporting Sports Golf Program
The federal governments new Sporting Schools program is in full swing throughout the state as recent applications were approved and local schools kicked off their participation with golf programs.
Jack Newton Junior Golf is supporting the in-school program by coordinating all sporting schools golf applications. The Newcastle, Hunter and Central Coast region has multiple schools involved in the first run of the program with the next applications being approved for 2016.
Recently some of our schools completed their golf sessions with visits to their local golf clubs.
“Having the schools complete their final session at a local golf club is the aim. We would like the students to experience their local club, test their skills on a real golf course and involve the club's Board and PGA member so that the students have a memorable final session and the club has the opportunity to promote itself and its junior clinics” said Mark Ingrey
Millfield Public School recently attended their final session at Stonebridge Golf Club following a five week program at school with a local community coach. During the golf club visit the students participated in chipping and putting games and four person ambrose on the second hole of the Stonebridge layout.
The students had a great session and I am sure many will attend the upcoming junior clinics.
New Lambton South Public School recently completed their 10 week program following multiple disruptions due to weather but this did not stop the enthusiastic students. The final session was held at Merewether Golf Club with all sixty students testing their new skills on the course through various games.
“The New Lambton program was a great success with Merewether trainee Adam Cecil providing the program. This allowed Adam to learn multiple skills relevant to his traineeship and provided a strong link between the club and school” said Mark Ingrey.
