Social Golf Club Helping Grow the Game
Thanks to the generosity of the Balgownie Hotel Social Golf Club four schools down in the Illawarra have had a teacher trained in the MYGolf Schools program and will also have equipment donated to the school. The four schools that will be part of the great opportunity are Balgownie PS, Tarrawanna PS, Mount Ousley and Fairy Meadow Demonstration School. The intent of the donation from the social golf club is to get more kids in schools introduced to golf and hopefully start playing golf at the local golf clubs. Balgownie Hotel Social Golf Club are also hoping to host an annual event where kids from the four schools that have been taught golf at school will come along to a Gala Day at Russell Vale Golf Club where they will play and show off their skills all in the hope of taking out the perpetual schools trophy!
On 17th June there was a teacher training day held at Balgownie Public School and three of the four schools sent a teacher and there was even a keen teacher from Sydney who missed the earlier training day come along. The weather wasn’t the best but this was a great opportunity for the teachers to see how easily the program could be done in a hall or classroom. Even when it came to the part of the day to design a golf course the teachers used their imagination and the holes where set up where they went from inside the hall to just outside to the undercover area! It seemed the teachers were having just as much if not more then what the students will have when they get to do the same!
