2017 Russell Vale Junior Open Results
The Russell Vale Junior Open combined with the Illawarra Juniors On The Move program on October 8, 2017 for what proved to be a fantastic move for all involved. This event has proven that combining the two events will be the way of the future.
Thirty five players arrived to course full of excitement and anticipation for what the day had in store for them. The weather was perfect and the course was in amazing condition for the event. The players were very well looked after throughout the day with lots of food and drinks to keep them fueled up. All of the juniors had huge smiles on their faces at the end of the day which is what it is all about.
The winner of the 2017 Russell Vale Junior Classic was Luke Taylor from Gerringong Golf Club with a 1 over par round, the decision to take a holiday leading up to the event paid dividends for the Gerringong junior. Runner up was Cassidy Graham from Links Shell Cove who continues to improve with every event that she enters and will be one to look out for in future events. The 2017 Illawarra Junior Cup was won by Jack Eagleton from Russell Vale Golf Club, after a great round of 57 Nett. Ryan McMechan was the runner up with 60, another one of Russell Vale Golf Clubs rising stars. The 9 Hole Girls Competition winner was Leah Heaton who’s older brother was in the final group at the International event in the Hunter Valley while she was busy winning her own event. The 9 Hole Boys Competition winner was Joey Eason from the Port kembla Golf Club with a fantastic round of 35.
It was an enjoyable day for the juniors, their parents, relatives and friends. Special thanks to those Russell Vale Golf Club members who assisted on the day with walking with the groups, marshalling out of bounds, meal preparation & drinks serving and competition organisation – and special thanks to Steve Goodwin & Boost Juice for the major sponsorship.
