A strong local contingent of 19 players in the Tyro 5-hole event was indicative of the record number of participants in the recent Maclean Junior Open. In total, 57 players turned out on a glorious Autumn day and some of the scores were equally sensational.
Players from Yamba, Kyogle, Grafton, Ballina, Lismore, Coraki, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, Murwillumbah, Coolangatta-Tweed Heads, Casino, Ocean Shores and Maclean enjoyed perfect weather and a course in great condition.
The 2016 Open Boys Champion is Jay Mackenzie from the Ballina Golf Club with a gross score of 4 under par 68, one shot shy of the course record. Runner up was Alex Hunt from the Murwillumbah Golf Club. The Girls Open winner was Courtney Fuller from the Grafton Golf Club with a winning score of 78 gross. The best net for the boys was Jackson Daley with a 65 nett. Emily Martin won the best net for the Girls with a 78.
