2014-15 Program
In 2013, the NRDGA, together with Womens Golf Northern Rivers, North Coast Academy of Sport and Jack Newton junior Golf developed a concept that would enable the “next group” of potentially elite young golfers to improve their game and take their golf skills to the next level. The first group of graduates were able to benefit significantly from the squad sessions and many have moved through from 9 hole “Tyro” golfers to full GA handicap players.
The program has continued in 2014-15 with a new squad containing young golfers from Coolangatta-Tweed Heads, Casino, Murwillumbah and Yamba Golf Clubs participating in squad sessions with Head Coach, Graeme Trew from Murwillumbah. The Squad Members for 2014 – 15 are:
Lewis Boulter (CTH)
Chad Brodbeck (CTH)
Isaac Outridge (CTH)
Tyrelle Roberts (Casino)
Ashlee Selwood (Murwillumbah)
Nick Sneesby (Murwillumbah)
Callen Stubbs-Sutton (CTH)
Reilly Wunderlich (Yamba)
Each year, the NRDGA awards a trophy to the squad member judged the “most improved” over the course of the squad sessions. The 2014-15 winner of the “Gary Ridge Memorial Trophy” is Callen Stubbs-Sutton.
The squad is open to junior players with handicaps in the range 10 – 30 and (generally) no older than 13 – 14 years. Graduates from the Development Squad are encouraged to move on to the NCAS Golf Program for elite golfers conducted at the Bonville Golf Club each year.
