Encourage Shield on the North Coast
It was never going to be easy but who was to know that the first round knock-out match against Port Macquarie would go down to the last putt on the 18th green before Kew Country Club wrapped up the match 3 1/2 to 2 1/2. The win will enable them to move on to the next round.
Kew Number 1 Jake Bell managed to square his match after being down for much of the game while Josh Merrill and Jordie Lockhart had good wins so Kew had 2 1/2 points on the board. However both Fletcher Murray and Quedesha Golledge who had both battled hard unfortunately lost to their more experienced Port Macquarie opponents. It was now all square (2 1/2 wins each) with one match to be finished.
The deciding match went down to the 18th green when Pyper Hollis sunk a great 3 metre putt to win her match 1 up and claim victory for KCC.
In the current climate in many sports where winning is everything, the sportsmanship and friendship displayed by both teams is to be commended. Winning wasn't everything, doing your best and loosing gracefully was more important.
The juniors would like to thank KCC for providing the nibbles and drinks following the completion of play and would like to offer a special thanks to team manager Howard Burrows for all his help. Finally congratulations to the Port Macquarie Golf Club team for a great match. Kew now move on to play the winner of the Mid North Coast division at a date and venue to be decided.
