Central Southern Golf Association (CSGA) Host Girls Golf Day, 22 January 2015
The CSGA Girls Golf Day was once again a great success. Fairbairn Golf Club and Leigh Hunter offered a very warm welcome to the girls and volunteers.
The event provides a wonderful opportunity for girl golfers to meet like minded girls, work on their game, receive coaching, mentoring and play some holes. Girls participating last year in the non-handicap category have now progressed to the handicap category. One of the girls reduced her handicap over the year from 45 to 23. We have developed an enthusiastic and friendly community of girl golfers, who support each other on and off the golf course.
Our day involved a skills coaching session in the morning for the girls without handicaps. Golf Professional, Leigh Hunter, delivered this session. While the younger ones were occupied with this, the girls with handicaps played a 9-hole competition. Everyone then came together for a sausage sizzle lunch.
In the afternoon all players were organised into Ambrose teams and played 9 holes. Each team consisted of one junior girl with a handicap and two or three girls who did not have a handicap.
In total there were 4 girls with handicaps and 9 girls without handicaps that participated. They represented Yowani Golf Club, Fairbairn Golf Club, Federal Golf Club, and Magpies Belconnen Golf Club.
The CSGA very much appreciate the hospitality of Fairbairn Golf Club and acknowledge their generosity in allowing us to hold the event at their course. As always, Leigh Hunter is supportive of, and encourages the development of junior golfers and has a great rapport with the children. His professional coaching services are very much appreciated. Thanks are also extended to Pauline Jeffery, Sue Harrison and Liz Smyth who organised and assisted in the running of the event.
