2016 Wingham Girls Golf Camp
On the weekend of the 28th & 29th May 2016 WGCNC hosted its first 2016 golf camp for junior girls in the region to develop their game of golf.
Nine girls attended the camp on Saturday at Wingham golf course under the coaching eye of Brendan Barnes (Sawtell). The morning session after a light warm up & introduction from all the girls, the girls concentrated on short game, practicing skills and learning chipping techniques. After lunch the girls headed back to the putting area were they had tuition on putting technique, alignment, reading greens and games based practice for distance control.
Brendan also allowed some time in the afternoon to practice their long game & to ask specific questions about their individual games before heading around the course to practice course shot selection and scoring in preparation for the tournament the next day.
After finishing at the course the girls and their parents were invited into the Golf Club where we enjoyed some food & drinks and a small presentation.
Pyper Hollis (Kew) was also presented the Emma De Groot Scholarship for 2016.
Sunday morning we gathered at Wingham Golf Club for breakfast prior to participating in their tournament.
We had an extra girl join us on the Sunday morning, we had five girls play in the 18 hole competition, and five girls in the 9 hole competition.
This was the first junior tournament ever held in Wingham and was the best supported tournament in the district this year to date for both boys & girls.
Whilst the course was very challenging with difficult greens, all the girls enjoyed the day.
Again the camp would not run successfully without the commitment of WGCNC, JNJG & Brendan Barnes for which both the girls and parents are very grateful.
I would also like to thank Wingham Golf Club, especially Ray Bisby for their assistance in organising this camp.
I look forward to our next camp organised for the 10 & 11th September 2016 at Port Macquarie.
