School Students Enjoy Golf at Magpies Belconnen
Magpies Belconnen Golf Club hosted the last of their local schools this week on a cold and rainy September day. Fraser Primary is part of the Magpies Belconnen initiative of getting local school students to experience golf at the course. With the assistance of Mr Guy Nichols, Fraser Primary and a host of volunteers at Magpies Belconnen, Professional Jonathan Hickman was able to show the students some great tips on how to improve their game.
Although the day started off with a little rain the students were keen to get out onto the course and play some holes. We managed about 1 ½ hours of outdoor golf before we were forced inside for some putting challenges.
Magpies Belconnen clubhouse was converted into a mini putt-putt course and the 28 students tested their skills, using various obstacles as hazards. The excitement inside the club was deafening as everyone enjoyed the experience.
Jonathan Hickman runs golf clinics for children during the week and on the weekends and information about these can be found on the club website http://belconnenmagpies.com.au/golfclub/pro_shop.html or ringing the Pro Shop on (02) 6254 6740.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the program; Magpies Belconnen Golf Club, JNJG, Mr Nichols and Scott, Paul Thorne, David, Ann, Shirley Walsh and Jonathan Hickman.
