YOWANI GOLF CLUB HOSTS CSGA GIRLS GOLF DAY
It’s not very often that a group of 15 young girls get the chance to play an Ambrose event in the middle of the member’s competition on a Sunday. With a warm welcome and quite a bit of behind the scenes organisation by Mr Ken Norris, Junior Coordinator at Yowani Country Club, it all became a reality.
The CSGA Girls Golf Day is an ongoing program that encourages beginner girls to try golf, seasoned clinic goers to practice their skills, while providing competition and mentoring opportunities for the more established junior girls in our region. We had a two-hour clinic in the morning for the beginners and clinic goers. Mr Paul Finkle, PGA Professional at Yowani, provided coaching for the girls. Those with handicaps braved the course from 8.30am to fit in 9 holes before lunch and the commencement of their mentoring roles. After lunch we teamed up and played an Ambrose event. Each team consisted of one junior girl with a GA handicap and two or three girls who did not have a handicap.
The local clubs represented were Yowani Country Club, Royal Canberra Golf Club, Gold Creek Country Club, Fairbairn Country Club, and Federal Golf Club. The results of the event are:
Gross Winner: Cassandra Linares, 41 gross
Nett Winner: Silka Solomon, 37 nett
Ambrose Winner: Matilda Sullings, Taylor Hood, Lucy Quinn, OCB
Ambrose R/Up: Madison Hood, Lia Liddicoat-Choi, Kaylee Dyska
Most Fabulous on Course was Lucy Quinn!
No-one went home empty handed as goodie bags were provided to all involved. Thank you girls for being so enthusiastic and fun.
The CSGA would like to express it’s appreciation to Yowani Country Club, Mr Ken Norris, his wife Julie, and member Pauline for their organisation, food, assistance and support today. Thank you to Mr Paul Finkle who provided expertise on the coaching front. Also thank you to Jack Newton Junior Golf who provided funding for prizes and coaching.
Keep your eye out for our next CSGA Girls Golf Day, which is scheduled for January School Holidays at Fairbairn.
