Federal Golf Club Fun Day
The Federal Golf Club in Canberra held its inaugural; bring your grandkids and kids to try golf day on Sunday 3 May, 2015.
The event was held in sunny conditions in the nation’s capital and attracted just over 70 children mostly aged between 8 to 10 years old, including 38 girls. After a lunch that was provided by the club, kids moved to the first of six activity stations set up around the practice facilities. Once all children had participated in each of the six activities, the budding players moved onto the course to have a hit.
Federal Golf Club Assistant Professional and designer of the activities, Damon Welsford said, “The objective of the day was to give kids the chance to try golf with a friendly and fun, give it a go approach.”
He said, “I was very excited that so many families were interested in attending the day. Teaching kids to play golf is a passion of mine and to have such a good response from members and visitors of the club was very pleasing.”
Female and male professional instructors were on hand to run the activities. The smooth running of the day was also made possible with the help of club members in a volunteering role.
The come and try day was designed to roll into newly structured Sunday morning clinics beginning Sunday 10 May 2015.
It was a big weekend for Damon who also shot a 9 under 63 and equalled the course record in the member’s Saturday comp the day before.
