Kew/Port Macquarie Golf Camp August 2015

On the weekend of the 8th & 9th August 2015 Womens Golf Central North Coast hosted its second golf camp for junior girls in the region to develop their game of golf.

Nine girls attended the camp on Saturday at Kew golf course under the coaching eye of Brendan Barnes and Luke Garel. Included in the nine girls were three beginners from the Kew area. The morning session after a light warm up had the girls concentrating on short game, practicing skills and learning new drills. After lunch the girls headed back to the putting area were they had tuition on putting technique, alignment, reading greens and games based practice for distance control.

We then headed out onto the course to practice playing in preparation for the tournament in Port Macquarie on the Sunday and scoring.

After play we headed back to the club house and finished the day with a small presentation and pizza.

Sunday morning we gathered at Port Macquarie Golf Club to play in their tournament.

Five girls played in the 18 hole competition, two in the nine hole, and two in the four hole competition. I walked at least 2/3 holes with all the girls at some stage during the day and they all looked like they were enjoying their golf.

There were a couple of girls from Port Macquarie who were participating in the tournament that I didn’t know, so I took the opportunity to speak to their parents about our camps and the support the ladies give to the junior girls.

Results from Port Tournament:

18 Holes:

Lily Baker – Gross Winner with 89 gross

Bronte Newman – Gross Runner up with 96 gross

Charlotte Campbell – Nett Winner with 74 nett

Piper Hollis – Nett runner up with 78 nett

Madeleine Laws-Farrell – Gross 113, Nett 80

Quedesha Golledge – Gross 133, Nett 88

9 Holes:

Two girls from the camp participated in this event; results were combined with the boys. The girls results were - Maddie Taylor – 78, Vanna Limeburner – 83

A girl from Port won this event with a score of 69!

4 Holes:

Two girls from the camp also participated in this event with two girls from Port Macquarie. Again the results were combined with the boys with 10 participants all together.

Mimi Campbell was third runner up with 31 on a count back from Bryella Golledge, these girls definitely had fun.

Again the camp would not run successfully without the commitment of WGCNC, JNJG and the coaches for which both the girls and parents are very grateful.

I would also like to thank Kew Golf Club for their assistance in organising this camp.
