The 2021/2022 JNJG Metro Academy
NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN FOR THIS PROGRAM
In 2021, JNJG looked to create a program to replicate the success of the Regional Academy of Sport (RAS) Golf Programs throughout NSW for Sydney Metropolitan Athletes. Where the RAS programs where the first step in the JNJG and Golf NSW High Performance Pathway, no such program existed for athletes who lived in Eastern, Southern and Northern Sydney.
With this in mind the JNJG Sydney Academy of Golf was formed. The Sydney Academy trained fortnightly, and were introduced to elite athlete concepts such as
Nutrition and Well Being
Strength and Conditioning
Injury Prevention
Sports Psychology
Handicap, age and location Guidelines
To be considered for selection, athletes will be need to fit the following requirements (handicap and age are used as guidelines only)
Boys - Ages 13 to 16, handicap of 12 or less
Girls - Ages 13 to 16, handicap of 18 or less
Eligible athletes will need to reside within the following Local Government Areas
North Squad - Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Northern Beaches, Ryde, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove, North Sydney, Mosman, Willoughby
South Squad - Strathfield, Canada Bay, Burwood, Inner-West, Sydney, Waverly, Woollahra, Randwick, Canterbury-Bankstown, Georges River, Bayside, Sutherland Shire.
Of the 2021 group, 3 athletes made the step up and were selected into the 2021 JNJG Development Squad.
After it’s initial success, the now called JNJG Metro Academy will be expanded to include more athletes, with one squad based in the North Sydney/Northern Beaches are, and the other to cover the Eastern and Southern Sydney.
The program runs from December 2021 to April 2022 and includes weekday afternoon as well as weekend training days. There are also compulsory tournaments the academy athletes are expected to play in, and 2 athletes from each squad are selected to play in the 2022 North v South Cup.
