Wong and Snyman Crowned International Champions
(7:00pm - Friday 30th September 2022)
Jeneath Wong (Metropolitan) and Dujuan Snyman (Sanctuary Cove) have won the 2022 Jack Newton International Junior Classic at Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club.
Wong led from wire-to-wire to claim the Girls Division by a staggering eight shots, whilst the Boys Division came down to the very last putt, with Snyman hanging on to defeat the fast-finishing Jake Riley (Pymble) by one stroke.
Having played a number of JNJG Major Events over the last 12 months since the Covid-lockdowns eased, Jeneath Wong saved her best performance for what might be her last JNJG event before turning 18, giving her rivals no chance with a breathtaking display of ball-striking and putting. The 17 Year-Old Victorian was the only player in the entire tournament, male or female, to break par on all four days to finish with rounds of 65 - 69 - 69 - 71 for a Cypress Lakes Tournament record score of 14 under par.
Wong edged further and further in front each day, with the final margin being eight shots, as NSW State Team Representative Rachel Lee (Avondale) was gallant in defeat to finish all alone in second at six under par. The two girls were standout performers in the difficult conditions at Cypress, as no other girl broke par for the tournament as they cleared out from the rest of the field.
The Boys Division was the complete opposite, as regular JNJG Competitor Dujuan Snyman (Sanctuary Cove) outlasted his rivals with a par on the final hole to secure a one shot victory. Snyman led by three with just two holes to play before finding trouble on the 17th, as local Newcastle / Hunter boy Jake Riley made his charge. Safely in the clubhoue after a final round 69 as the rain continued to fall, Riley could only watch as Snyman made the par he needed to claim the trophy.
Overnight leader Zackary Swanwick (Napier GC, New Zealand) was a shot further back in third place, with fellow Kiwi Robby Turnbull (Remeura GC, New Zealand) and surprise packet Vidur Subramaniam (Ryde Parramatta) rounding out the top five at one under par.

Boys Goes Down to the Wire as Wong Closes In
(7:30pm - Thursday 29th September 2022)
Jeneath Wong (Metropolitan) has one hand on the Jack Newton International Junior Classic trophy after her third straight sub-70 round at Cypress Lakes. The 17 year-old was flawless on Thursday, reeling off three birdies whilst remaining bogey free to move to 12 under par the tournament.
Wong has opened up a seven shot lead over her nearest challenger, Michelle Bang (Concord), with Rachel Lee (Avondale) a further three shots back. Haruhi Nakatani (Surfers Paradise) and Shyla Singh (Southport) are the only other players in red figures, sharing fourth at one under par.
The leading Girls group will tee off at 12:42pm on Friday afternoon.
It looked as if New Zealander Zachary Swanwick (Napier) was cruising to the title in the Boys Division, flying out of the blocks on Thursday to open up a six-shot lead as the leaders made the turn. However, just like many before him this week, the dangerous stretch of holes from 10-14 claimed another victim in the blink of an eye.
A pulled tee shot led to a triple bogey on the 12th, before more tree trouble down the left and a double bogey on 13 meant that six shot lead was almost gone. Swanwick steadied on the closing stretch, with a long birdie putt on the last sending the 16 year old back in front with 18 holes to play.
Dujuan Snyman fired his third straight under par round to move into second, just one shot back after a three under par 69. Snyman is joined in the final group by Vidur Subramaniam (Ryde Parramatta), the NSW boy having his best ever JNJG Tournament to sit two shots back at minus four. Kiwi Robby Turnbull (Remeura) and Michael Song (Metropolitan) also remain in red figures, whilst Jake Riley sits at level par.
The leading Boys group will tee off at 12:51pm on Friday afternoon.

(7:00pm - Wednesday 28th September 2022)
Zachary Swanwick (Napier GC, New Zealand) and Jeneath Wong (Metropolitan) have taken control at the halfway point of the Jack Newton International Junior Classic at Cypress Lakes.
Swanwick fired his second consecutive round of 68, including a Hole-In-One on the 11th, to open up a four shot lead on fellow Kiwi and roommate for the week, Robby Turnbull (Remeura GC, New Zealand). Dujuan Snyman (Sanctuary Cove) and Vidur Subramaniam (Ryde Parramatta) share third place at three under par, with Charlie Nobbs (Vines of Reynella) and Jake Riley (Pymble) the only other players under par.
Wong extended her lead to three shots in the Girls Division, backing up her opening round 65 with a three under par 69 on Wednesday afternoon to move to 10 under par for the tournament. NSW pair Michelle Bang (Concord) and Rachel Lee (Avondale) will join the 17 Year Old in the final group, sitting at seven and five under par respectively. Shyla Singh (Southport) is the only other player in red figures after a 69 on Wednesday to move to three under par for the tournament.
Play begins at 6:15am on Thursday morning, with the leaders set to tee off around 1:00pm.
Girls Star on Opening Day at International
(6:30pm - Tuesday 27th September 2022)
The opening round of the Jack Newton International has finished in the NSW Hunter Valley, with the Girls stealing the show at both Cypress Lakes and Crowne Plaza.
At Cypress Lakes, Jeneath Wong (Metropolitan) fired a bogey free seven under par 65 to lead the Girls Division, one shot clear of NSW pair Rachel Lee (Avondale) and Michelle Bang (Concord) who recorded opening round 66's. In the Boys Division, New Zealand visitor Zackary Swanwick (Napier) and Sydney-sider Vidur Subramaniam (Ryde Parramatta) matched each other with four under par 68s on the opening day.
In total, 18 players broke par on Tuesday, with scoring fantastic on the difficult layout.

After a two-year Covid enforced break, more than 400 juniors from around the world will arrive in the Hunter Valley this week to take part in the 2022 Jack Newton International Junior Classic.
For the first time ever, players of all ages, levels and abilities will be able to take part in the tournament with Singleton Golf Club set to host the Jack Newton 9-Hole Junior Classic, a new tournament added to the International to cater for our youngest juniors without an official 18-Hole handicap.
The event at Singleton joins the Jack Newton International Junior Classic (Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club) and Jack Newton International Sub-Junior Classic (Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley) to make the tournament the biggest junior tournament in Australia and one of the biggest anywhere in the world.
Jack Newton International Junior Classic
The Jack Newton International Junior Classic will once again take place at Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club, with almost 200 players from six different Countries and every State and Territory in Australia represented at the event this year. Whilst Covid and certain travel restrictions have limited the number of International Teams taking part, regulars to the International from the USA (Oahu Junior Golf Association in Hawaii), New Zealand, New Caledonia and Singapore have returned to the tournament this year, putting Covid in the rear-view mirror.
The World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event, which is also the highest rated junior tournament in the country behind the Australia Junior Championship, sees players aged 15 - 17 teeing it up at Cypress Lakes, looking to join an elite list of players who have been crowned Jack Newton International Champions.
