Sienna Clarke, Jamie Smith Win Sydney Week of Golf
(5:30pm - Friday 14th January 2022)
Sienna Clarke and Jamie Smith have won their maiden JNJG Major Titles, claiming the 2022 Harvey Norman Sydney Week of Golf at Muirfield Golf Club.
It promised to be an exciting afternoon at Muirfield, with tight leaderboards in both Boys and Girls divisions entering the final round. However, the cream rose to the top on Friday at the end of a gruelling week, with Clarke and Smith coming out on top.
Clarke saved her best round of the week for last, a bogey free two under par 70, to win the Girls Division by three shots. Clarke started with 14 straight pars, before picking up birdies on the 15th and 17th hole to seal the deal. Clarke defeated Aaniyah Bhola (Concord) who also finished under par on Friday, her first under par round since relocating to Australia from the U.S.A.
Angela Liu (The Lakes) and Abbey Bull (The Australian) finished tied for third, with Liu winning the 16-17 Years Division on the first playoff hole. The other age divisional trophies went to Millie Komulainen (Emerald Lakes) in the 12-13 Years and Sophie Tong (Killara) in the 11 Years & under.
Whilst Clarke gave her rivals no chance in the Girls, the Boys Division went right down to the wire.
Deep into the back nine, as many as six players were within just two shots of the lead. Kayun Mudadana (Cronulla), Coby Carruthers (Concord), Shashank Koirala (Bonnie Doon), Josh Todd (The Australian) all had thier chances on the back nine, before Arki Valdy (The Australian) and Jamie Smith (Manly) went sudden death to decide the winner.
After both players finished the tournament at one over par, Smith and Valdy went up the 17th hole for their 91st hole of the tournament. Showing nerves of steel, the two players in search of their first victory fired beautiful approach shots into the first playoff hole, giving themselves good looks at birdie. Valdy's attempt slid past, giving Smith the chance to take the win which he did, rolling in the 10 footer for birdie.
Ian Kim (Ryde Parramatta) won the Boys 12-13 Years Division, with Nathan Hong (Macquarie Links) running away with the Girls 11 Years & Under. The shot of the day, and the week belonged to Harrison Preece (The Vintage), who scored his first ever hole in one by spinning a 9-iron back into the hole on the 9th.
JNJG would like to thank tournament sponsors Harvey Norman and TaylorMade for their continued support of the Week of Golf, as well as the five host clubs, Cabramatta, Liverpool, Brighton Lakes, Cumberland and Muirfield.

It's a stacked leaderboard, with Shashank Koirala (Bonnie Doon), Arki Valdy (The Australian) and Boys 14/15 Years leader Kayun Mudadana (Cronulla) all just two shots back. It promises to be an exciting finish at Muirfield, with eight players separated by just five shots.
The Girls Division will be equally exciting, with the top four on the leaderboard separated by just three shots heading into the final round. Sienna Clarke (St Michael's) and Angela Liu (The Lakes) continue to lead the way, the pair locked together at 16 over par through 72 holes.
