Scaysbrook, Toomey win Rain Affected Champions Trophy
(12:00pm - Friday 2nd December 2022)
Ella Scaysbrook (The Australian) and Rupert Toomey (Huntingdale) have won the 2022 Bonville Champions Trophy after a second rain delay on Friday morning caused the tournament to be reduced to 54 holes.
The final round began more than one hour late on Friday after more than 50mm of rain had fallen in the previous 24 hours, with parts of the course not coping with so much rain. With the rain starting to ease and the showers becoming patchy, play got underway with revised tee times in a mad attempt to finish the final round before the rain returned and for almost six holes that looked like a possibility.
However down the rain came once more and when the initial 15 minute pause in play turned into 30 minutes and then 45 minutes, the final round was cancelled with all results reverting to 54 holes.
Whilst that left Scaysbrook in front in the Girls Division, the Boys needed to find a hole that was playable to enable a playoff and after some fantastic work by the greenstaff, the par three 8th was cleaned up ready for action.
It took three additional holes as the rain circled Bonville once more, before Toomey defeated Queenslander Taj Egea (Brookwater) with water still laying on much of the remainder of the course. Coby Carruthers (Concord) finished one shot back with Cam Jackson (The Lakes), playing in his final JNJG Tournament, finishing in outright fourth.
In the Girls Division Scaysbrook finished two shots clear of birthday girl Hollie Fuller (Grafton) and day one leader Grace Lee (Concord), with Ann Jang (NSW) and Seoin Kim (Brookwater) rounding out the top five.
After a number of years off the calendar, it was a pleasure to return to Bonville for the Champions Trophy with Toomey and Scaysbrook already booking their tickets for the tournament in 2023.
Play Underway After Rain Delay at Bonville
(8:00am - Friday 2nd December 2022)
The final round of the Bonville Champions Trophy has begun after heavy overnight rain forced a 60 minute delay on Friday morning.
Play got underway just after 8:00am, with some tee time adjustments and a change in format meaning the final round was played under a shot-gun start for all players.

Scaysbrook on Top as Tight Finish Looms
(6:30pm - Thursday 1st December 2022)
Ella Scaysbrook (The Australian) will take a two shot lead into the final round of the 2022 Bonville Champions Trophy after a day where persistent rain made scoring difficult on the already tough golf course.
Birdies proved hard to come by in the Girls Division, however it was a three hole stretch late in the round that turned the tournament on it's head as Scaysbrook took control. Birdies on the 14th, 15th and 16th turned a three shot deficit into a two shot lead as the leaders struggled in the wintery conditions on the first day of "summer". The Newcastle GC member finished the second round at seven over par, with Grace Lee (Concord) and local girl Hollie Fuller (Grafton) sharing second spot at nine over par.
In total, the leading five players are separated by just three shots with Seoin Kim (Brookwater) and Ann Jang (NSW) still within striking distance heading into the final round. The leading trio will begin play at 8:00am on Friday morning.
The Boys Division is equally tight, with seven players separated by just five shots on the leaderboard. Interstate pair Taj Egea (Brookwater) and Rupert Toomey (Huntingdale) share the lead at one under par, Egea flying up the leaderboard with a bogey free 68 in the wet conditions. The round of the tournament so far, the only player to break 70 for the week, moved the Queenslander to the top with just 18 holes to play.
He joined overnight leader Toomey at the top, the Victorian rallying with a birdie-birdie finish to regain a share of the lead. Joining the interstate pair in the lead group is current NSW Junior Champion Coby Carruthers (Concord), the 17 year old sitting at level par after back to back under par rounds on Thursday.
The leading Boys Division will get play underway at 8:10am on Friday morning.
Day Two at Bonville Begins as the Rain Rolls In
(7:30am - Thursday 1st December 2022)
The second day of the Bonville Champions Trophy is underway at Bonville Golf Resort, as the rain sweeps across the Mid North Coast. Perhaps fitting after the amount of rain that has fallen throughout 2022, the 2022 Champions Trophy will be played in similar conditions to what many players faced throughout the year in trying to qualify!!
At the end of day two which will see the completion of both the second and third rounds, the 54-Hole cut will be made.
The Top 9 Girls (+ ties) and Top 14 Boys (+ ties) will make the cut and qualify for Friday's final round.
Lee and Toomey on Top at Bonville
(5:30pm - Wednesday 30th November 2022)
Grace Lee (Concord) and Rupert Toomey (Huntingdale) have taken the lead after the opening day of the 2022 Bonville Champions Trophy.
Lee was as consistent as ever on Wednesday morning, starting the round with 15 straight pars before making her first birdie of the day on the 16th. The 17 Year Old from Concord backed that up with another birdie on 17, before narrowly missing a birdie putt on 18 to finish the opening round at two under par. She finished the day as the only player in the Girls Division under par, opening up a four shot lead on her rivals.
Ella Scaysbrook (The Australian) moved into second place on the leaderboard at three over par, one shot clear of Sophie Epplestun (St Michaels) and Ann Jang (NSW GC) as the girls completed eight holes of the second round before play was stopped.
In the Boys Division, only one player finished the opening day in red numbers, with Victorian Rupert Toomey taking the outight lead at one under par. Harry Atkinson (Pymble), Ian Kim (St Michaels) and Ryan Fletcher (Lynwood) finished the opening day at level par, with 10 players separated by just three shots after the first day come to an early close.
Round two will be completed on Thursday morning, with tee time starting from 7:30am.
