Halls and Golledge Claim A.C.T Week of Golf
(1:30pm - Thursday 7th January 2021)
Jye Halls (Mollymook) and Quedesha Golledge (Kew) have won their first major JNJG Title with victory in the 2021 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf.
Halls fired a final round 73 on the testing Queanbeyan layout to hang on and win by three shots from the fast finishing Bowen Small (Maitland).
Small was the only player to break par in Thursday's final round, reeling off five birdies in his final round 68 to finish the tournament at even par. Harry Atkinson (Kurri) was the Boys 13-15 Years Champion and finished in third place four shots further back, one shot clear of Ethan Harvey (Kiama). Charlie Peng claimed victory in the Boys 12 Years and Under Division, winning his age division by an impressive 10 shots.
Lachlan Standing (Maitland) had an incredible tournament, finishing at 15 under par to win the Nett Divison by 12 strokes from Aaron Liu (Gungahlin Lakes).
Golledge out-lasted her rivals in the Girls Division, closing it out with a four stroke victory. Matilda Sullings (Federal) was the real surprise packet of the week and pushed her all the way, finishing in second place as well as taking out the Girls 13-15 Years Division. Silka Solomon (Royal Canberra) and Michelle Di Natale (Bowral) finished third and fourth despite not quite being at their best throughout the week.
Youngster Sophia Chau (Gungahlin Lakes) took out the Girls 12 Years and Under Division, whilst Sullings and Maddi Hood (Gungahlin Lakes) were the only two Girls to finish the tournament under par in the Nett Division.
JNJG would like to thank the four host clubs, players and parents, as well as tournament sponsor Harvey Norman for supporting the event under such difficult circumstances with the border closures severely impacting the field size.

Halls by Four as Girls set for Nail-Biting Finish
(1:30pm - Wednesday 6th January 2021)
Jye Halls (Mollymook) continues to lead the way in the Boys Division of the Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf, but the Girls Division is set for a Nail-Biting finish with only one shot separating Quedesha Golledge (Kew) and Matilda Sullings (Federal).
Round Three is quite often referred to as moving day in a golf tournament and with the Gold Creek course set up perfectly to encourage plenty of birdies, the juniors responded by shooting some of the best scores of the week.
After starting the day with a six shot lead, Halls knew that limiting the mistakes on a golf course with plenty of water was going to be crucial and the 16 Year Old did just that. A solo bogey in the opening 12 holes meant the chasing pack never really got close, although a couple of late bogies did give those behind a glimmer of hope. The player with perhaps the biggest glimmer of hope is Harry Atkinson (Kurri Kurri), who moved into outright second with a bogey free four under par 68.
Bowen Small (Maitland) and Ethan Harvey (Kiama) round out the top four a further four and five shots back respectively, whilst Brij Ingrey (Cypress Lakes) moved into the top five with the low round of the week. The 16 year old Novacastrian, on a scholarship in Sydney at The Australian Golf Club (lucky he didn't visit the course between Dec 21 and Jan 3 meaning he was free to enter the A.C.T), reeled off seven birdies on his way to a six under par 66.
The Girls Division is proving quite the battle, with Golledge and Sullings once again swapping positions on the leaderboard. After trading places over the first two days, the lead swapped hands multiple times throughout round three and in the end it was Golledge who will take a one shot lead into the final round. Joining the leading duo in the final group is home-town favourite Silka Solomon (Royal Canberra), who has slowly climbed the leaderboard throughout the week after a slow start on Monday. Solomon is only four shots further back, ready to pounce if either of the leaders falter.
The leading Girls will begin the final round at Queanbeyan Golf Club at 8:36am, with the leading boys group following them at 8:44am.

Halls, Sullings Soar to the Lead
(1:00pm - Tuesday 5th January 2021)
Jye Halls (Mollymook) and local girl Matilda Sullings (Federal) have soared to the lead at the halfway point of the 2021 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf.
Halls was the only player, boy or girl, to break par on a tight and tricky Yowani Country Club layout, presented in fantastic condition despite the heavy storms that rolled through NSW and the A.C.T yesterday. Halls made four birdies alongside just one bogey to open up a six shot lead on the chasing pack.
Joining Halls in the final group on Wednesday will be overnight leader Harry Atkinson (Kurri Kurri) and Bowen Small (Maitland), who fired matching rounds of 76 to finish the day at two and three over respectively. The leading trio will tee off together at 8:44am at Gold Creek in the final pairing of the day.
Whilst Halls has put a space between himself and his rivals in the Boys Division, the Girls Division looks as if it may go down to the wire, with only five shots separating the top four players at the halfway mark.
Sullings fired a second consecutive 78 to move into the lead, her two round total of 156 (+9) good enough for a one shot lead. Overnight leader Quedesha Golledge (Kew) recovered from a disasterous start to the day to finish in second place at +10, three shots clear of Michelle Di Natale (Bowal) who finished with a round of 80 for the second day in a row. Lurking just one shot further back is local Silka Solomon (Royal Canberra), who is still in the mix after a 79 on Tuesday morning.
Sullings also leads the way in the Nett Division, a clear standout so far at eight under par. The three boys currently under par in the Nett Division so far are also locals, with Henry Kanis (Federal) and Aaron Liu (Gungahlin Lakes) leading Rowan Harrison (Murrumbidgee) by one shot.

Atkinson, Golledge Take Opening Round Lead
(1:00pm - Monday 4th January 2021)
Harry Atkinson (Kurri Kurri) and Quedesha Golledge (Kew) have shot to the top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the 2021 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf.
Atkinson made five birdies on Monday morning to take a one shot lead in the Boys Division, with some talented juniors lurking just one shot behind. Bowen Small (Maitland) also made five birdies on his way to a first round 71 (-1), sharing second place with Jye Halls (Mollymook). Halls only real mistake for the day came with a bogey on the par-five 17th, a hole many players up the top of the leaderboard were making birdie on. Ethan Harvey (Kiama) sits alone in fourth place at Even Par, with a four shot gap back to a group of players at plus four.
Golledge also made plenty of birdies in her opening round, opening up a three shot lead on her nearest rival. The Lower North Coast 16 Year Old signed for a two over par 75 and leads local girl Matilda Sullings (Federal), who used local knowledge in her round of 78. Sullings Nett score of 69 was also the best of the day, boy or girl, on a day where players flew around the course in less than four hours.

A.C.T Week of Golf to be Played Despite Border Closures
(8:00pm - Sunday 3rd January 2021)
The A.C.T closing it's borders to parts of NSW may have stopped more than 100 players taking part in the tournament, but the Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf will get underway tomorrow morning at Federal Golf Club.
A field of 175 players were expected to take part in the first tournament of the 2021 calendar year, before Covid-19 reared it's head again in Sydney just before Christmas forcing parts of the state into lockdown. In the end, 42 players were still allowed to enter the A.C.T this weekend, with the field being made up of Canberra locals, Interstate visitors, or players from regional NSW who had not been in the Greater Sydney, Wollongong, or Central Coast LGA since December 21st.
After the tournament was cancelled the day of the firs round in 2020 due to the Bushfire smoke making it impossible to be outdoors, Covid tried hard to abandon the event for the second straight year.
Play begins at Federal Golf Club 7am on Monday morning, before the tournament moves to Yowani (Tuesday), Gold Creek (Wednesday) and finishes at Queanbeyan (Thursday).
