Atkinson and Hillman-Varma Cruise Home at Shelly
(1:30pm - Sunday 23rd January 2022)
Harry Atkinson (Pymble) and Sahara Hillman-Varma (Concord) have cruised to victory at the 2021 Greg Chalmers Junior Masters, becoming JNJG Masters Champions for the first time. Atkinson backed up his opening round 70 with an even par 71 to win the Boys Division by six shots, whilst the winning margin for Hillman-Varma was even greater, winning the Girls Division by nine shots.
On a day where scoring was difficult, Atkinson was incredibly solid throughout, picking up two birdies whilst only dropping two shots to run away from overnight leader Jack Phillips (Concord). Phillips finished with a 78 on day two to claim second spot overall as well as the Boys 16-17 Years Division, with young-gun Jonathan Hong (Macquarie Links) finishing in a share of third spot and winning the Boys 12-13 Years by four shots.
It was double success for the Hong's, with younger brother Nathan winning the Boys 11 Years & Under Division by four shots.
Hillman Varma quickly took control of the Girls Division after a fast start on Sunday morning. After starting with the overnight lead, two birdies in the opening six holes put a gap on the chasing pack, a gap that proved too big to overcome. An incredible eagle on the 15th was the cherry on top, as the 15 Year Old claimed her maiden JNJG title.
Marissa Hronis (Kogarah) and Michelle Yang (Bonnie Doon) finished in a share of second, with Girls 16-17 Years Champion Desiree Herden (Shelly Beach) and Girls 12-13 Years Champion Camilla Casafus (Moore Park) rounding out the top five.
Sophie Tong (Killara) once again proved too strong in the Girls 11 Years & Under Division, defeating Ming-Ming Li (Bayview) by three shots.

Brodie Herrring (Manly) and Jacob Lamb (Bathurst) will join the pair in the final group on Sunday morning, shooting rounds of 73 and 74 respectively.
The Boys 12 & 13 Years Division is set to go down to the wire, with five players separated by just one shot after the opening round. Bo Chung (Ryde Parramatta), Matty Xu (Randwick) and Adam Ding (Bankstown) also shot 74 on day one, with Ian Kim (Ryde Parramatta) and Nathan Hong (Macquarie Links) one shot back after 75s.
The highlight of the tournament came very early on, with Bailey Leafe (Cumberland) starting his round with a Hole in One on the 10th!
In the Girls Division, long-time JNJG regular Hillman-Varma will be in search of her first JNJG title after recording a one over par 76 on Saturday afternoon. The Concord junior leads Deanna Gurmaij-Chung (Lynwood) by one shot, with local favourite Desiree Herden (Shelly Beach) lurking just two shots further back. They'll be joined in the lead girls group on Sunday morning by Annoushka Maikap (Stonecutters Ridge), who recorded her best ever round with a five over par 80 on day one.

Third Time Lucky as Greg Chalmers Junior Masters Finally Begins
(12:00pm - Wednesday 19th January 2022)
After multiple delays due to Covid-19 restrictions, the 2021 Greg Chalmers Junior Masters will finally take place this weekend at Shelly Beach Golf Club.
Delayed from it's original date in July due to lockdowns and then delayed again from the rescheduled date in October due to extended lockdowns, the 2021 event will take place with some winter weather set to remind us of what we missed last year.
A capacity field of 120 juniors will take part in the tournament, with the unique format of the event also seeing 120 members compete on the opposite half of the draw for the Shelly Beach GC Board Honoured Greg Chalmers Masters.
The full field of members will tee off on Saturday morning between 6:30am and 8:30am, with the juniors taking the afternoon session between 11:15am and 1:15pm. Times are reversed on Sunday, with the Juniors playing early between 6:30am and 8:30am and members following from 11:30am.
With some of the best juniors in the State competing this week in the Avondale Amateur and then next week in the NSW Amateur, the door is open for a first time JNJG Masters Champion.
