2016 JNJG Junior-Am
On July 4th Wyong Golf Club provided access to their facility as hosts of the annual JNJGJunior-Am. The event has been developed to bring sponsors together with some of the states leading junior golfers allowing these juniors to experience the life of a professional golfer.
Although the day is a fun filled ambrose event the main focus is to generate funds for the host District Golf Association specifically junior golf. The past years in the Illawarra have seen a great response from sponsors and the subsequent junior programs throughout the region.
Thirty one teams came together in perfect conditions at Wyong and the course conditions complimented the weather. From the outset you could tell all players were there to enjoy their round with a leading junior and put their efforts into growing junior golf.
In a great outcome the day raised $18,500 for junior golf with the funds being split evenly through the Central Coast, Hunter and Newcastle District’s. We are sure all players, juniors and our districts were very happy with the outcome.
Additionally all clubs were provided with raffle ticket books. All clubs sold tickets and kept the money for their own junior program. Some of the clubs did amazing jobs with a notable mention to Shelly Beach GC who sold an outstanding 20 books. We are sure their junior program will thrive with the new financial gain. It is estimated another $14k was raised within the district clubs. A special thanks to sponsors for providing prizes for the raffle.
In the coming months plans will be put in place to develop programs that will grow golf for “new” juniors. In a joint program the three districts will be assisted by JNJG to put in place long-term growth opportunities with the goal of growing junior activity at club level and hopefully junior membership.
