David Hirsch Day at Pacific Dunes
David Hirsch was an influential volunteer in the Sutherland Shire who dedicated much of his time and money to junior golf in the local area. As part of his legacy the David Hirsch Memorial Trophy is awarded to one junior each year. In 2015 JNJG introduced a new initiative in regards to this trophy which saw all four Sutherland Shire club junior events become part of the overall trophy. This trophy was awarded to the junior with the best aggregate stableford score from all four events.
The events were: the Cronulla Junior Open, The Ridge Junior Open, the Woolooware Junior Open and the Aron Price Junior Tournament (Kareela Golf Club)
Juniors needed to play all four events to be eligible to win the David Hirsch Memorial Junior Trophy. The winner received the trophy as well as a holiday package to the Gold Coast, including theme park entry.
All prizes for the overall David Hirsch Memorial were announced at the new David Hirsch Day. In 2015 this was a fun day held at Sylvania Par 3. For 2016 it was decided that those juniors who were invited would travel to Pacific Dunes for a fun ambrose event.
Juniors who played at this David Hirsch Day recieved and invite after winning or playing well at one of the four events (Cronulla, Woolooware, Kareela and The Ridge). There was also some kids who had played all four events.
The ambrose winners were – Matt Frith, Shreeya Singh, Rips Singh and Chris Fisher – nett 56.75
Runners up – Braydon Taylor, Rhys Vella, Gabbi Beohm and Luke Roberts – nett 57.75
Scholarships were also awarded on the day to juniors who had played in the Sutherland Shire junior events.
Matthew Frith (Cronulla) was named as the 2016 David Hirsch Memorial Trophy winner. Finn McNamara finished second by just one point.
All of the juniors and parents who took part in the day had a great time and are already looking forward to the Sutherland Shire events in 2017.
