How can you play Golf at a Netball Carnival?
For several months Sacred Heart Primary, Pearce, ACT have been organising the event of the century – the 2016 Catholic School Netball Carnival. As hosts, Sacred Heart carried on the long tradition providing a wonderful Carnival and Fair Day experience.
This is not just any ordinary event! Sacred Heart worked very hard to provide something for everyone throughout the day. There were 1600 registered competitors for the netball, who each received a registration bag packed with giveaways and information (imagine how long it took to pack those bags). The idea was that while sons and daughters played netball, siblings, parents, friends and grandparents were entertained by a myriad of stores and activities. There were jumping castles, face painting, petting zoo, and GOLF, just to name a few.
What a perfect idea it was to include a Golf Month activity as part of the entertainment! Resources were sought from all around our district, and with the dedicated input from the ACT Monaro DGA, Central Southern Golf Association, BirdieBall Australia, Jack Newton Junior Golf, and most importantly, an army of volunteers, created a marvellous golfing experience for all to enjoy.
Children and parents had a wonderful golfing experience. It is not every day that you get to fire off golf balls at a Dinosaur Target. Hitting balls at ‘Golfosaurus’ was so exciting some of the boys found it difficult to return to their netball commitments, and after their game rushed back to have another go. Adding to the excitement a number of competitions were open for those who wished to test their skills. Jack Newton Junior Golf donated a number of prizes and the winners of the major prizes were:
Adult Prize Winner: Marco Imbriano
Children’s Prize Winner: Isaac Scarano
Participants in the golf event were automatically entered into the draw to win a trip for two to Adelaide for a platinum 4-day experience at the 2017 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open. The draw for the ‘Grand Prize’ will take place at 3.00pm on16 December 2016 at Golf Australia Limited.
Thank you to all involved.
