Golfers Get into Action at Youth Games
The former NIB Games recently changed the title to Australian Invitational Youth Games.
Multiple sports participated in the games with Golf participating for the first time.
This year the decision was made that although the numbers may be small the event should go ahead and encourage junior golfers from across the country to participate in a small “games” environment.
Approximately one thousand sports people participated while Golf saw an entry field of 20 players. The first round was played in conjunction with the Newcastle District Schoolboys/Girls tournament at Muree Golf Club.
In good conditions Muree Golf Club provided a challenge for players with the long course seeing some higher than normal scores returned. All players then took a well-earned rest before heading the Newcastle Golf Club for the second and final round the next day.
The rest was short lived with Newcastle Golf Club presented perfectly but the weather had other ideas….our juniors were tested over the Australian Top 20 course with winds averaging 55km/phr and gusts of 75km/phr recorded.
Again some of the scores returned were higher than normal but others were tested and managed to hold good rounds to climb the leader board.
Final results:
Boys Gross Winner - Clayton Small (Maitland GC), 157
Girls Gross Winner - Monica Johnson (Moore Park GC), 159
Boys Nett Winner - Brock Best (Charlestown GC), 143
