2015 SSA Golf Championships
The 2015 School Sport Australia Under12 Golf Championships were held this week in Newcastle.
New South Wales were the hosts of this year’s championship with Newcastle Golf Club as host.
Five states participated in the four day championships with those attending being New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and for the first time in history ACT.
Sunday afternoon teams arrived before attending the opening ceremony at Newcastle Golf Club. In a relaxed but competitive opening day teams played a four person ambrose with Victorian Girls team and Queensland Boys team taking the honors.
Tuesday (Round One) kicked off the Craig Parry Shield. The team’s event has 6 leading Boys scores and 2 leading Girls scores counting to the team championship. The Newcastle course was looking a treat while the same couldn’t be said about the weather. Luckily our participating field completed their rounds with little disruption. Our NSW team started their defence campaign well sitting just 9 shots behind Victoria.
Wednesday (Excursion Day) all participating teams and managers enjoyed a day of fun and games as they travelled to Forster.
Thursday (Final Round) of the Craig Parry Shield. Wet and cool conditions greeted the players, however like most juniors this didn’t seem to bother them as much as it did the parents…..happily we can confirm our NSW team played another great day of golf with some of their skills being viewed by Jack Newton and Brad James from Golf Australia.
The end result was fantastic for our team and all players should be proud of the way they played and represented their state, school, JNJG and so on. Congratulations Team Victoria (1st Time Champions)
Final Results:
Craig Parry Shield – 2nd Place
Abbott/Bowtell Trophy (Boys) – 1st Place
