JNJG Metropolitan Academies 

In the absence of a Regional Academy presence in Eastern and Northern Sydney, in 2020 JNJG developed the JNJG Metropolitan Academy. The JNJG 'Metro" academy serves as a gateway for aspiring junior golfer in those areas of Sydney to begin their junior into the JNJG and Golf NSW High Performance pathway.

In 2021, the Metro Academy expanded, and split into a Northern and Southern "Squad" to facilitate the complications of navigating Sydney to attend training sessions.

The JNJG Metro Academy aims to introduce Sydney juniors to elite athlete pracitices and training, focusing on;

- Strength, conditioning and injury management
- Nutrition
- Sports Psychology
- Personal Development

Each Academy Squad member will be committing to fortnightly training sessions (excluding school holiday periods), participation in compulsory program tournaments (2024 Harvey Norman Sydney Week of Golf and 2024 Regional Academy of Sport Academy Games) and joint training camp with the Regional Academy Network (Feburary or March 2024 TBC)

The objectives of the Academy are as follows;

• educate and inform players and their parents on the development pathway at state and national levels
• educate and inform parents and players on the principles of long-term athlete development
• provide an opportunity for the academy members to showcase their golfing talents to JNJG Development Staff
• provide an opportunity for JNJG to collect information on general athletic ability, golf skills, attitude and behaviours of academy participants
• provide a fun and challenging curriculum that allows the participants to learn about themselves and develop new skills
• to identify participants that would benefit from additional JNJG development and competition opportunities in the future

Criteria for nominating:

- Be a member of golf club affiliated with Golf NSW
- Born between 2005 and 2010
- Committed to participating in regular group training and tournaments
- Eager to progress to higher representation within golf
- Able to provide a valid Golf Link Number
- Currently residing in the Local Government Area (LGA) of;

 

North Squad - Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai-,Northern Beaches, Ryde, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove, North Sydney, Mosman

South Squad - Strathfield, Canada Bay, Burwood, Inner-West, Sydney, Waverly, Woollahra, Randwick, Canterbury-Bankstown, Georges River, Bayside, Sutherland Shire.

Handicap guide - Boys -12, Girls -18
(This is only a guide for the nomination process, having a handicap within these guidelines does not guarantee selection)

Squad sizes are limited to 12 players, but the final size of the squad will be determined based on the talent level of nominations and may not reach the maximum.

Note- Players involved in higher level JNJG development programs (i.e. JNJG Talent Development Program, JNJG Target Squad) do not need to apply, as you are already a part of the JNJG Talent Pathway
