Golfing Gala at Murrumbidgee

Just before Christmas last year Curtin Primary School, Gordon Primary School and Chapman Primary School enjoyed a sunny ‘Golfing Gala’ afternoon at Murrumbidgee Country Club, Kambah ACT.

Prior to holding the Gala afternoon, students had completed golf programs in their schools.  These programs were a result of some enthusiastic teachers who had received JNJG training in how to deliver a golf program for primary school students.

JNJG teacher training is conducted on a regular basis in the ACT region, giving the opportunity for schools to provide a modified and enjoyable physical activity for their students.

Curtin Primary Year 6 teacher, Mr David Ferguson is a JNJG Ambassador and has been conducting golf programs with his Year 6 students in recent years.

The gala afternon was organised through Head Professional, Scott Lennox and Murrumbidgee Country Club General Manager Warren James.  The students very much appreciated the generosity of Murrumbidgee in making their facilities available.  Murrumbidgee has lessons and school holiday clinics catering for all children.

All in all 42 girls and boys attended the afternoon.  Activities included long hitting on the driving range, chipping and bunker play on the short range, and putting on the practice green.  A gift pack was received by each one for their efforts in the activities.  As it was quite a hot day we had plenty of rest stops in the shade for drinks and food, and we didn’t see a snake all afternoon.
